"What's Lula like?" she asked.
"Great bands, Nick Ali is strong, intense salsa." I replied. "You will not be disappointed."
Like greyhounds straining on the leash, Nick Ali and Marrón Matizado's first set played to new salseras and salseros.
But, do not mistake slow salsa for boring salsa. Lula rocked to classic tunes - Dark Latin Groove among them - as Nick "The Brownman" did them justice.
Unexpected salseras included a bride-to-be -- complete with veil pinned to the back of her hair -- on one last blast before marital bliss.
Along with wishing SalsaSpot a happy birthday, Nick invited our bride to announce her upcoming nuptials on stage just before his second set.
In true Latin fashion, a second shift of salseras and salseros relieved the beginners from the first set. Nick saw the salsera shift change and turned up the heat to scorching. They did not let him even think of turning it down.
"Who wants to hear a ballad and hug the girls?" made no impression on the crowd.
"Who wants to hear a slammin' salsa?" drove Lula's wild.
That's how the night ended.
Don't forget, if one wants a seat, reservations are a must as almost half the floor fills up with spectators.
